According to the latest reports, Obsidian Entertainment are working on a new entry in the Outer Worlds series. This project is currently in pre-production and could change into something else, though.
Obsidian Entertainment are firing on all cylinders since Microsoft acquired the talented development team. At the moment, Obsidian have several projects in the works. The biggest team who previously worked on Pillars on Eternity are now on Skyrim-like RPG named Avowed while other, smaller teams are working on survival title Grounded and other unannounced projects.
One of these projects is a brand new title from Pillars of Eternity I and II designer Josh Sawyer while the other one is a brand new entry in The Outer Worlds series. This is according to reliable Daniel Ahmad, Niko Partners' senior analyst .
"Last I heard a new entry in [The Outer Worlds] franchise is being explored, currently in pre-production. Could change into something else ofc, but this is the current status," Ahmad wrote on Twitter.
Now, just like the tweet suggests, the game is still pretty much in a very early stage so it will probably take a while before Obsidian and Xbox officially reveal the details and trailer. We also don't know if this new game is a full-fledged sequel, a spin-off or a smaller title set in The Outer Worlds universe.
It's possible that The Outer Worlds DLC team, which had around 70 people has switched to this new title but of course, until we get more details, this is just a guess and speculation so take it with a grain of salt.
The Outer Worlds is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
