Chinese tech giant Tencent have acquired a 5 per cent minority stake in the developer of exciting new RPG Black Myth: Wu Kong Game Science, according to reports.

Game Science is a Chinese indie studio founded in 2014 and recently they announced their major project - Black Myth: Wu Kong. The game attracted a huge interest due to its unique setting and boss design but also interesting combat which many describe as Souls-like.

Tencent announced the acquisition, stating that they have acquired a minority stake of 5 per cent in Game Science. The good news is, Game Science will continue to operate autonomously following this investment, which is something that players certainly want to hear.

Game Science Founder and CEO explained what exactly this acquisition means for the company. Tencent will remain hands-off on the project while providing technical support for Unreal Engine along with Epic Games.

The investment is to grow the domestic PC / Console games industry.

Black Myth: Wu Kong still does not have a release date but the developers aim to release the game sometime in 2023. As for the release platforms, the game is coming to PlayStation 4, PC (storefronts not confirmed), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S and Xbox One.

In case you are not familiar with the game, it's based on the classical 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West and it follows Sun Wukong or Monkey King, who possess the special ability to transform into flying insects or giant monsters.

The game is packed with unique and giant bosses so it's safe to say that fans of Souls-like games will be pretty excited about this one.
