State of Decay 3 is officially happening. Developer Undead Labs announced today that alpha playtests will be held starting May. Following several years of radio silence, the survival game sequel is letting early access fans take the game for a spin.
Here’s what to expect from Undead Labs’ alpha playtest. Sign-ups have already opened for State of Decay 3‘s alpha playtest beginning in May. Access will be limited for the first session, but Undead Labs assures more opportunities to play will be available later in 2026.
Expect the alpha to focus on many of the key features defining this next iteration of the game. There will be an expected emphasis on co-op, base building and combat. These features and more seem to promise a larger loop than what was previously available in the series.
Alpha Playtest Will Focus on Co-op, Base Building, Comba
tHighlighting several aspects of what makes State of Decay such a fun experience, the alpha will dive players into a blend of:
- Co-op gameplay supporting up to 4 players
- New base-building mechanics
- Tightened resource management
- Bigger emphasis on combat
The alpha will serve as a great look into the gameplay improvements and overall expansions on the formula we’ve come to know from the franchise.More chances to play the game will be announced later this year.
A rocky development for State of Decay 3
State of Decay 3 was originally revealed back in 2020. At the time, the game was only just coming out of early pre-production. Later reports from the troubled studio shed some light on some internal problems with crunch and workplace issues causing some delays.
Development is supposedly still underway with help from The Coalition implementing Unreal Engine 5 and bettering graphics and performance. Recent reports from Undead Labs suggest they are in a much healthier state of development.
