Eric Barone has revealed some interesting numbers when it comes to the sales of Stardew Valley, which has crossed the 20 million copies sold milestone.
Stardew Valley has always enjoyed positive reception, making it immensely successful over the years. It was released in 2016 and six years later, the game has sold over 20 million copies in total.
Excluding the other platforms, Stardew Valley was purchased over 13 million times on PC alone, the initial platform where it was released. The information is coming from Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone himself, as he updated the Stardew Valley blog to reflect the latest developments.
To put the significance of the number in perspective, imagine if the entirety of Sweden and Austria bought a copy of Stardew Valley - they would still be around 90,000 copies short. If Grenland and Liechtenstein pitched in with a copy for each of their citizens at that point, the four countries would end up having enough people to roughly equal the number of all the Stardew Valleys in the world.
Considering this is largely a solo project by Barone, the number becomes even more mind-boggling. Furthermore, it's highly likely there was a significant increase by the time this article was published since the numbers are from March 2022.
Over the course of six years, countless updates have been released and Stardew Valley today offers more content for $15/€14 than a AAA game with a massive budget would.
