Sony's PlayStation is officially the best-selling home video game console brand ever, with over 450 million units sold across the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4.
PlayStation console has reached an incredible milestone by becoming the best-selling home video game console brand of all time. The console has been officially certified by Guinness World Records with over 450 million units sold across the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles.
That's an average of just over 110 million units per console/generation which is to be fair, a pretty impressive result. Of course, the actual sale numbers are bit different. PlayStation 2 is the best selling console with 155 million units sold. The current-gen PlayStation 4 is behind with 102,8 million while the original console follows with 102,49 million. PlayStation 3 is the only console that failed to sell more than 100 million units. It currently sits at 87,4 million.
Sony were delighted to officially announce the big news via their Twitter. "We're thrilled to be certified as the best-selling home video game console brand ever, with over 450 million units sold across the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 as of Nov. 7 according to Guinness World Records," it's written in the tweet.
The Japanese tech giant also thanked the players who supported them through the years. "It's all thanks to you," they wrote.
Sony are currently developing their next-generation console, PlayStation 5, which is scheduled to arrive sometime during Holiday season in 2020. The company already revealed several details about the console. It will feature a super-fast SSD, ray tracing, and won't have loading times and it's safe to say that with these features, it could become the best selling PlayStation console of all time.
