The skate. team has released The Grind: Vol. 6, celebrating Early Access launch success and outlining Season 1 plans for EA's recently released skating game. The update reveals staggering player engagement statistics from the recent Insider Preview period, which goes to show just how popular skate games are nowadays.
Massive Player Engagement
Between August 26 and September 15, players performed over 181 million kickflips, 134 million ollies, and 20 million laserflips in San Vansterdam. The community also executed 300,000 rocket airs, 81,000 Japan airs, and used the Fake Steez gesture 175,000 times, demonstrating the game's addictive trick system.
Season 1 Content and Visual Improvements
The upcoming season brings significant visual updates, starting with a lighting pass designed to create a more grounded, less high-contrast appearance. This represents the first step in evolving the game's overall visual presentation based on player feedback.
Season 1 also introduces the skate.Pass system, allowing players to earn seasonal currency (Tix) through gameplay to unlock over 80 rewards across free and premium tracks. Content includes new skateable areas, seasonal events like Skate-o-ween and Maple Harvest, brand partnerships with Santa Cruz, Independent, and Creature, plus soundtrack additions from Operation Ivy and Jurassic 5.
The release date for Season 1 is set for October 7, 2025.
Legacy Tricks Return
Community questions revealed the development roadmap for classic tricks. Impossibles and expanded handplants arrive in Season 2, while darkslides and improved footplants/boneless tricks come in Season 3. The team emphasised their commitment to solid gameplay implementation over rushed releases.
"With skate, we resurrected Flick-It in the Frostbite engine and are bringing tricks from the Legacy titles to skate. Impossibles and Expanded Handplants coming in Season 2, with Darkslides and Improved Footplants/Boneless coming in Season 3. Ensuring solid gameplay is very important to us, so you can expect more past Season 3, but that’s all we’re talking about for now. Rest assured, there’s more to come," the devs confirmed.
