Pokemon Go Lunar New Year event is bringing in-game bonuses, special spawns and discounts in the shop. 2019 is the Year of the Pig which means that the featured Pokemon is Spoink and the event is scheduled to run until 13 February 2019.

Niantic have officially started Pokemon Go's new, major event which celebrates the Lunar New Year. The event spotlights 12 Pokemon and runs until 13 February 2019, 1:00 PM PST / 10:00 PM CET.

The 12 Pokemon featured in the event match up with the various animals featured on the Chinese calendar. Since 2019 is the Year of the Pig, that means Spoink is taking the spotlight as the star of the event. Also, those who get lucky may encounter a Shiny Spoink.

As for other Pokemon that will spawn more frequently during the event, Niantic included these creatures:

  • Rattata (Year of the Rat)
  • Ekans (Year of the Snake)
  • Mankey (Year of the Monkey)
  • Ponyta (Year of the Horse)
  • Electabuzz (Year of the Tiger)
  • Dratini (Year of the Dragon)
  • Mareep (Year of the Sheep)
  • Miltank (Year of the Ox)
  • Torchic (Year of the Roster)
  • Poochyena (Year of the Dog)
  • Spoink (Year of the Pig)
  • Buneary (Year of the Rabbit)

During the event, Pokemon trainers will also get 2x catch experience points and 2x experience points when evolving their Pokemon. Additionally, when you trade Pokemon, there is an increased chance it will become a Lucky Pokemon.

There is also a special quest which requires you to trade 10 Pokemon with friends. Once players complete the quest, they will get Chimchar Pokemon as a reward.

And that would be everything Niantic included in the latest Lunar New Year event. If you're looking to catch shiny Spoink or take advantage of the double experience points bonuses, make sure to do it before the event expires.
