Niantic and NBA are bringing a new free-to-play metaverse geolocation basketball game to mobile phones.
Pokemon GO developer Niantic and NBA have today officially announced a partnership to work on a brand new metaverse basketball game named NBA All-World. The press release suggests that NBA All-world is an entirely new concept and first-of-its-kind game that will place NBA fans into the real-world metaverse.
It's described as a "geolocation basketball game" where players can find, challenge, and compete against today’s NBA players in their neighbourhoods, then recruit them to their team before proving themselves on the court.
We also know that players can get outside, and go 1v1 against other players, explore their neighbourhood and compete in mini-games. The description also mentions sneakers and gear drops which can be used to increase the performance of your squad.
Niantic say that NBA All-World is a game for both casual and hardcore NBA fans but they didn't go into detail on that one so we're not sure what exactly they mean there.
"NBA All-World represents an industry first in sports games, as an original, real-world mobile game that will appeal to casual and core NBA fans alike,” said Marcus Matthews, Senior Producer at Niantic.
Below, you can watch the logo reveal trailer for the game and find the official description from Niantic's website.
