Niantic have revealed Pokemon GO's upcoming anniversary event which starts on 26 February 2019. During the celebrations, players will get to encounter Shiney Pidgey and Shiney Rattata alongside the new special version of Pikachu and Eevee.
It's been 23 years since the release of the first ever Pokemon game and just like on every 27 February since 2016, Pokemon Go players are celebrating the Pokemon day with various in-game activities that add new Pokemon variants.
Niantic have officially revealed this year's creatures and bonuses which go live today - 26 February 2019 at 10:00 PM CET / 1:00 PM PST.
Throughout the event, Pokemon Go players will have the chance to encounter Shiny versions of Pidgey and Rattata.
If you're unfamiliar with the Shiny versions of Pokemon, they are basically alternate colour schemes of standard creatures that are often available during limited time events such as Community Days.
In addition to Shiny Pidgey and Rattata, the special versions of Pikachu and Eevee with flower crowns will make an appearance as Field Research encounters and players can also catch them in the wild.
Pokemon that players encountered early on in their Kanto region adventures will appear more frequently in the wild during the anniversary event, and they will also feature in Raid Battles.
The Pokemon Day anniversary event will run until 10:00 PM CET / 1:00 PM PST on 28 February 2019.
Niantic are also introducing a new AR photo mode Pokemon Go along with a new, surprise Pokemon - Smeargle. He will occasionally photobomb the photos you take using the Pokemon Go's new mode and then show up in the wild, giving you a chance to catch it.
Dropping with the new update is the team switch feature which Niantic announced last week. To change the team, you'll have to buy from the from the shop. The item costs 1.000 PokeCoins which is around $10 in real-world money.
