Pro Evolution Soccer is dead. Long live Pro Evolution Soccer.
Konami have finally done it. The beloved football simulation franchise is no more, at least not under the iconic PES name. The publisher have decided to change the name to eFootball, marking a massive transformation for the series, which will be mostly free-to-play with seasonal updates and a "battle pass" system.
eFootball won't have annual releases, instead, Konami's plan is to offer a steady flow of new content every throughout the year as well as drop bigger updates for new seasons. Check out the first roadmap below:
The game will also be switching to digital-only, meaning that you won't be able to buy physical copies anymore.
Konami also stated eFootball will support cross-platform matches between all platforms including PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Also, there's a cross-generation play between respective PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Those who prefer local play, Master League and other single-player modes will be disappointed to hear that these won't be Konami's focus moving forward.
eFootball will launch with only nine clubs for local play and it seems that modes like the Master League will be available via paid DLC later on, though, Konami did not say when exactly we'll hear more about this.
eFootball will be launching on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and mobile.
