Sony have barely had time to make the headlines with their announcement that they wouldn't be attending E3 2019 by the time Microsoft and Nintendo decided to capitalise on this decision and announce their own attendance, praising the event.

Sony seem to be ready to play the role of a recluse once again as they they wouldn't appear on E3 2019 and also PlayStation Experience for this year. Fans are already in a theory-crafting frenzy, trying to come up with understandable reasons for these decisions. Meanwhile, the competition is using the opportunity to get positive feedback.

Naturally, we are talking about Microsoft and Nintendo. Phil Spencer used the opportunity to immediately promote Microsoft's attendance at E3 on his Twitter account, that the company has "a lot to share" on the upcoming E3. This doesn't really come as a surprise since Microsoft spent their time collecting developer studios as if they were pokemon.

He did say that the event is the high point of the year, as people can witness the industry's creativity and the energy of the community. Considering this came just after Sony's non-attendance announcement, one could argue Sony are left without creativity for the moment, especially in the light of the company openly admitting PSX was canceled due to lack of things to show.

Meanwhile, Nintendo of America COO, Reggie Fils-Aime, said that "E3 is an outstanding opportunity for [Nintendo] to share new games and experiences with fans and business partners" adding that they discuss what would be the best way to take advantage of the next E3 every year.

These claims are somewhat odd, since Nintendo has dropped out of several E3 events before and most of their big news comes from Direct first. It is a good bit of promotion for the company regardless, especially since Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are considered the big three companies everyone expects at the event.

Fans are already speculating that Sony will announce PlayStation 5 on PlayStation Experience 2019 and attempt to establish the event as the new go-to place for information regarding the platform. One could argue that The Last of Us 2 would warrant enough attention to host a proper show, but Sony have been slowly teasing it for two years now, which will be three years in 2019, progressively making the game old news even before it launched.
