EA are reportedly expecting to launch a brand new Need for Speed game by Criterion sometime in September/October 2022.
A new Need for Speed game is reportedly nearing the end of development and should be launching later this year in September/October. Reliable insider Tom Henderson reveals that EA are expecting a new racer by Criterion Games in Autumn if everything goes according to plan.
"EA is expecting Need for Speed by Criterion Games to release in September/October 2022. Need for Speed development had to be paused in summer 2021 as Criterion Games needed to help with the development of Battlefield 2042," Tom tweeted.
If the rumour is indeed correct, the game should be revealed sometime during Summer, presumably at the EA Play event. The details about the next Need for Speed game are pretty scarce at the moment - we don't have any info about the setting or the direction that the next game in the popular racing series will take.
Need for Speed franchise has been on a downward spiral over the last decade in terms of critical reception but it's obvious that it still makes plenty of money for EA, who are happy to keep releasing new titles without much innovation every two years.
As always with rumours and speculation, take everything with a grain of salt until EA drop the official announcement.
