Mutant Year Zero is an upcoming tactical turn-based combat game with a dash of XCOM, a pinch of STALKER and one teaspoon of Looney Tunes mixed in it. The Bearded Ladies have shown the basic combat and exploration in a 30 minute long video.

Mutant Year Zero is set in a post apocalyptic world that is largely populated by mutants. Now these are not the horrific mutations we came to know in Fallout and STALKER series. Nukes in Mutant Year Zero apparently turned people into Looney Tunes characters. There are three characters shown in the player's squad during this gameplay and only one of them resembles a human being.

The other two look like Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. Daffy, whose real name is actually Dux, is a crossbow sniper guy and Porky, named Bormin is the sturdy one that soaks up the enemy fire. Selma is the human-looking mutant from the group and her role doesn't seem to be clearly defined, as the players pointed out at one point that she can support the other two but it is not shown how exactly.

The Zone is the name is of the post apocalyptic wasteland in the game and humankind has never set foot in it. Humans live on the Ark, which is basically a city on top of a giant pole and they rely on Stalkers to bring them resources such as food and water. Now in order to survive the perils of The Zone, these Stalkers needed to become ''more than human'', which resulted in becoming mutants. Players' squad consists of three such stalkers - Dux, Bormin and Selma.

The opening story for the game hints that these Stalkers don't actually believe everything the Ark's leader says. The Elder, as they call him, refrains from telling people on the Ark about the truth how the supplies get there and that they are running dangerously low. This looks like a decent enough setup so far and it will be interesting to keep an eye on this newest addition to the turn-based combat games.

It will be available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
