Jungling in League of Legends has always been a chaotic affair. However, the scuttle has been the one constant this season that has remained unchanged. Season 12, though, is here to change that massively.

Whether you are starting blue, or red side. From the blue or red buff, the rift scuttle has been the objective that defines where you will gank, which side you are going to play for, and if you have established supremacy over the enemy jungler.

As the rift scuttle always brought the jungle level 3, if they had previously cleared another camp, getting it, or having it stolen, is vital to how the rest of your game goes. With season 12, however, this will come into question, as this is what Riot have to say on the rift scuttle changes:

"We believe that the first Rift Scuttler spawn is too impactful in deciding the outcome of the early game, so we're reducing its importance and resolving the encounter more quickly. Now that it's squishier, you or your enemy can defeat it more easily and, in short, back off to safety sooner.

The first Rift Scuttler will now have 35% reduced health, grants 80% reduced XP, and has been slightly reduced in size to match its lower value."

It is unlikely that we will have junglers contesting the scuttle in the river anymore, as it will be far easier and faster to defeat. However, the massive changes in experience mean that junglers will now have to find alternate ways of gaining the experience, or, the meta will shift towards level two ganks.
