ARAM, the League of Legends’ favourite all-random game mode, is getting its biggest update in years. With ARAM experiencing a resurgence in popularity, Riot is bringing new content and systems to make the game feel fresh again.
Starting in patch 25.13, ARAM will see a format change with rotating maps, new mechanics, and a more interesting champion selection process. This all ties into the current Spirit Blossom event and the upcoming release of Yunara.
Portals, Power Flowers, Champion Cards, and cannon launchers? Let’s break down all of the upcoming changes coming to ARAM in June 2025.
Rotating ARAM Map Pool
For the first time ever, ARAM games will take place on a rotating map pool.
After champion select, players will be placed on one of three maps at random:
- Classic Howling Abyss (the OG ARAM map)
- Butcher’s Bridge (the Bilgewater throwback map)
- Koeshin’s Crossing (a new Spirit Blossom-themed map)
This new system will help shake up games without losing what makes ARAM fun.
New Map: Koeshin’s Crossing
Koeshin’s Crossing is the newest addition to the ARAM map pool.
It’s a highly stylized, Spirit Blossom-themed map that has some features:
- Spirit Blossom portals replacing the usual hexgates
- A pair of central portals to make going back-and-forth mid-game much easier
- Some Lore connecting the new champion, Yunara
This new map offers more mobility and flashier visuals, but it’s still true to the ARAM spirit.
Butcher’s Bridge Returns (But Better)
Thankfully, we get to bring Butcher’s Bridge back by popular demand. Here are some of the changes:
- Instead of changing your champion, they now fill your cooldowns and give you a shield (no health)
- Can shoot players to their next battle in a jiffy
These tweaks should help keep the game moving and add a little more strategy to it.
New System: Champion Cards
RIP rerolls! Champion Cards is the new way to pick a champion in ARAM.
How it works:
- You’ll be given two champion options at champion select
- Choose one and the other will be placed in your team’s bench pool
- Your teammates can choose from the bench pool if they’d prefer
- You’ll occasionally get three Champion Cards instead of two (not sure on the conditions)
This gives players more control over what champion they want while still keeping it random.
When Do the ARAM Changes Go Live?
All of the above will be arriving in patch 25.13, coming to live servers on June 25, 2025. This lines up with the second act of Season 2 and the Spirit Blossom 2025 event and Yunara’s rumored release.
