Blizzard and Facebook unite for Heroes of the Dorm 2017

Thanks to the team-up with Facebook, the action will be exclusively streamed via Facebook Live

For its third season, Heroes of the Dorm is making a move from ESPN to Facebook Live. The switch from a cable television station to Facebook might have something to do with the platform's ability to reach a wider range of audience all over the world, making it “a new kind of connected esports event”.

The move to an online streaming service is not a new phenomenon in the world of esports, reflecting the modern time and a degree to which the whole world is connected via social media.

The fact that Heroes of the Dorm will be streamed using Facebook Live means none of the tournament footage will be available on Twitch and YouTube. The completed matches will also be accessible only through Facebook.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment stated that “Heroes of the Dorm has featured some of the most dramatic college esports action of the past two years, and with more prizes for more teams up for grabs this year, we’re looking forward to a whole new level of competition.”

Heroes of the Dorm will be available for the Heroes of the Storm college teams across the United States and Canada. More than $500,000 in tuitions and scholarships will be handed out to the winners.
