Despite the rumours suggesting that Rockstar's next Grand Theft Auto instalment would be set in the 1980s, reliable leaker claims that's not the case. The game will reportedly be another modern-day story.

It's safe to say that GTA VI is still years away from its release but while we wait, we get to discuss a bunch of rumours and leaks that appear online from time to time. One of these rumours is Project Americas, which revealed that the game would be set in 1980s Vice City.

At the moment, this is one of the credible leaks among the GTA fans but it has not been verified by reliable sources so it could be entirely faked. And according to a reliable leaker Tom Henderson, most of the Project Americas details are indeed fake, including the one about the setting.

When asked about GTA VI over on Twitter, Henderson replied that the game is not set in the 1980s and is a modern-day story.

When someone pointed out that 80s GTA would be a great game, Henderson suggested that the modern-day setting is easier to monetise for Rockstar Games. "GTA Online + Modern + Wacky Shit = More Money," he tweeted.

Now, before you take this as gospel, we must say that these are just rumours at the moment and nothing more. Yes, Henderson has been a reliable source in the past but until officially confirmed by Rockstar, you should take every information with a dose of scepticism.
