Barlog said that there was a time when he was putting down some ideas for God of War's DLC, none of which materialised for a plethora of reasons. "They were interesting ideas but, I think, the amount of time we'd have to put into it, it would start to end up kind of like a Left Behind or a First Light kind of thing, where it’s just so big", Barlog said.
As sad as it may be, we cannot deny that it makes sense because the bar set by God of War was, and quite likely still is, so high that anything other than exquisite content would've stuck out like a sore thumb. Barlog insisted that he has "a difficulty with the lower ambition portion", which in this case is probably just right.
Barlog reminded that it's not like he and the God of War team had all the time in the world to try out every creative avenue that Kratos would allow - they had to deliver the game in a set time, which in itself required a few difficult decisions.
You may recall that God of War's took a few weeks to launch while the mode came towards the end of August 2018, quite some time after the game's launch, which Cory reflected on as well.
"It was also important for the team because they were kind of bummed that from a time perspective - we just couldn't finish that stuff. To get the game stable or to put New Game Plus in? And I was like, I agree - 100 per cent stable", Barlog added.

The nature of the video game medium makes it enticing to go in and meddle with stuff but Barlog claims he'd rather make something new to explore those creative avenues, rather than change the existing stuff.
