Ex-Street Fighter devs launch a Fig campaign for a fighting game

Ex Street Fighter developer is working on a fighting game for PC, Mac and PS4. The company has launched a Fig campaign to support the game, offering both investment and reward opportunities. Fantasy Strike is set for a 2018 release.

These developers who previously worked for big companies are really . Sirlin Games was founded back in 2005, and it's lead by David Sirlin. Today, they are launching a Fig campaign in order to fund their latest endeavour.

Mr. Sirlin was the lead designer of Street Fighter HD Remix, and the author of Playing to Win. He is also a former pro fighting game player. Fantasy Strike started development two years ago, and currently features 8 characters and 4 stages, with more on the way.

Arcade, local versus, online play, and training mode will all be playable immediately following , with numerous additional gameplay modes planned for the game’s full release.

Fantasy Strike is designed to be so "radically accessible" (without sacrificing depth of strategy) that even non-fighting-gamers can enjoy the genre.

"Controlling your character is simpler than in just about any other fighting game," says David Sirlin, President of Sirlin Games. "We don’t have joystick motions—we don’t even have CROUCH. The difficulty all comes from deciding what to do and when to do it. We’re very interested in gameplay depth, we just want it to come from your decisions. That approach has allowed us to draw in a much wider audience at trade shows than would usually be interested in a fighting game."

In August - months before the game becomes available on Steam's Early Access, those who pledge £39.99 or more during the Fig campaign will get a playable version of the game for free.

is being developed for Mac, PC (available via Steam) and PlayStation 4. The game is expected to launch in late 2018.
