EA has shared its preliminary financial results for the fiscal quarter that ended in December, 2017. Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson said that players have clocked in 'hundreds of millions of hours in our games across console, mobile and PC'. The Sims 4 player base has grown 35 percent.
EA's preliminary financial results for its third fiscal quarter have been announced. The third fiscal quarter ended on 31 December, 2017.
"Players enjoyed hundreds of millions of hours in our games across console, mobile and PC during the holiday quarter" said Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson and Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen added that they will be "launching games across five different genres, on three different platforms, and to players around the world". The new games will trickle in during the fourth quarter and fiscal 2019.
Digital net bookings for the trailing twelve months was £2.38 billion. It's up 18 percent year-over-year and represents 67 percent of total net bookings for the same period. The company's FIFA community was almost 42 million players strong since January 2017, and FIFA Mobile added 26 million players to its total player base in the quarter. FIFA Ultimate Team player base grew 12 percent year-over-year, from launch to the end of the quarter.
Nearly 70 percent of people who played Star Wars Battlefront II have engaged in the single-player campaign, and Battlefield 1 has had north of 25 million unique players to date.
The Sims 4 player base has grown around 35 percent year-over-year, and the Madden Challenge entertainment special on The CW Network was the number one esports television broadcast in the U.S. for 2017.
Operating activities have provided a total of £599.25 million in net cash. Net cash provided by operating activities for the trailing twelve months was £1.07 billion. During the quarter, EA has repurchased 1.4 million shares in exchange for £105.88 million. For the trailing twelve months, EA repurchased 5.6 million shares for £407.97 million.
