According to the latest rumours, retired Dallas Mavericks power forward and NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki could be the cover athlete of NBA 2K22 Legend Edition.

An absolute legend of the NBA and global men's basketball, Dirk Nowitzki, is finally set to appear on NBA 2K cover, according to the latest rumours which  have surfaced on Reddit but have also been verified by some trusted industry sources.

Redditor swine_flu_greg has shared a bunch of info about 2K Games' upcoming projects including NBA 2K22. According to his sources, Dirk Nowitzki will be the cover athlete for the upcoming game but he is not quite sure whether it's for the Standard or Legend Edition.

Shortly after the rumour appeared on Reddit, a trusted industry insider and Bloomberg journalist confirmed on Twitter that the info is legit. He also stated that he does not know if Nowitzki is indeed the cover athlete for the game but it's probably safe to assume that part is correct since the rest also is.

As you may know, this will be the first time that the retired Dallas Mavericks' power forward and one of the best European players of all time will be on the cover of an NBA 2K game. It's been a long time coming and many fans will certainly agree that Dirk is one of the few NBA legends that certainly deserves to be on the cover of the popular basketball simulation from 2K.

2K Games are expected to reveal the next NBA game later this month, potentially at E3 2021, if everything goes according to plan. As for the release date, NBA 2K22 is expected sometime in September 2021, judging by the release of earlier games in the franchise.

We have contacted 2K Games for an official comment regarding the leak and are awaiting a response from the publisher.
