Bungie announced that the open beta early access will start on 18 July for PlayStation 4 players who pre-ordered the game. Xbox One folks will gain access on 19 July. PC version of the beta will be available in August.
It seems like it was only yesterday when I sat down to write my "most anticipated games of 2017 " list, and now Destiny 2 is just around the bend. Everyone who pre-ordered the game will have the right of an early access to the open beta, and the fast talking voice at the end of the launch trailer did nothing to convince me otherwise.
Oh and by the way, are you implying than I am not a legend, Bungie? Never mind, I'll get over it.
Destiny 2 is firing on all cylinders
"Pre-order early access to the beta on PlayStation 4 begins 18 July, whilst for Xbox One players, early access begins 19 July". Says the press release. Also: "In just over two week’s time players globally can play the Destiny 2 console open beta on 21 July at 6pm BST through to 5am BST on 23 July".
The open beta will feature activities such as the opening story mission, Homecoming, and cooperative and competitive modes.
The press release goes on to explain the game's story and how the sequel is newbie friendly. The story:
"Destiny 2 is the sequel to the internationally acclaimed Destiny, a first-person action game that takes the player on an epic journey to defend humanity from annihilation. In the story of Destiny 2, the last safe city on Earth has fallen and lay in ruins, occupied by a powerful new enemy Dominus Ghaul and his elite army, the Red Legion".
The newbie friendly part:
"Every player creates their own character called a ‘Guardian,’ humanity’s chosen protectors. As a Guardian in Destiny 2, players must master new abilities and weapons to reunite the city’s forces, stand together and fight back to reclaim their home. The game will offer a fresh start to all players with no previous knowledge or background needed".
Destiny 2 will be available on PC on 24 October, and the PC beta will kick off in August, said the trailer, but it has lied before. Here is a video SubReal did back in March on the things we'd like to see in the upcoming game:
