With more and more video games cashing in their appeal via Hollywood, it was only a matter of time before Borderlands took its piece of the pie, and the casting suggests it will be a bundle of fun.
We know what you're thinking - what about Krieg? We feel you, but the darling psycho probably isn't the Borderlands flavour you want to use for introducing a franchise to viewers who have never seen a shiny meat bicycle.
Anyway, Adam Goodman, head of Hungary's major production services provider MidAtlantic Films, spilt the beans in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, while discussing the country's production boom.
We're not talking about a concept phase either - Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett are apparently starting with filming soon. Note that our usage of Hollywood was strictly figurative, since Borderlands will be recorded in Budapest, the country's capital.
Fortunately for the Hungarians, the country's prompt response to the pandemic meant they were among the first to return to international productions, which landed them a bunch of projects from the new Dune to Marvel's movies.
"We're opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands [starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart], we're doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we're doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can't talk about", he said.
We're actually a bit surprised Gearbox didn't leak the news earlier, but either way - we're sure their comms will be burning up after this.
Borderlands' unlikely cinematic pairing sounds interesting as well, since we're talking about a beast of an actress in Blanchett and a comedic monster in Hart. We wonder whether it will be an Epic exclusive again, wink wink.
