Black Myth: Wukong has become a gaming sensation overnight. Proof of this is when Game Science's action RPG sold a massive 18 million copies within two weeks from its release.
This unprecedented success is having the game developer already work on an expansion of the game. Daniel Wu, Hero Games, being the biggest external shareholder in Game Science, recently said in an interview with Bloomberg.
Hero Games laid heavy hands in the development of the game, and this company's contribution to the $70 million budget has paid off now. The company had initially stood through Game Science when the latter failed to overcome some of the problems that plagued the developers in the early days of the game's development.
Wu proudly said Black Myth: Wukong has proved not only that Game Science could provide premium games but also narrated a story that people liked and was deeply connected with Chinese culture.
Although no actual details of the expansion have been revealed, fans are expecting more news. Indeed, back in 2020, when the first trailer for Black Myth: Wukong came out, it was teased that Game Science may expand the universe of Black Myth with other titles-whether these will come as separate sequels or be part of the said expansion is a mystery.
Black Myth: Wukong reaches impressive sales milestone
Besides the expansion, Game Science has teased the possibility of implementing "non-pay-to-win in-game purchases, though nothing is set in stone yet.
Black Myth: Wukong has broken records by selling 10 million copies in just its first week and 18 million in a fortnight. This puts the game among the fastest-selling games ever. Having developed it in six years and investing US$70 million into the game, Game Science is rather confident that the game could eventually hit 30 million lifetime sales.
Now available on PS5 and PC, the game has received rave reviews for its combat, visuals, and boss design, with many outlets giving perfect scores.
