Ashes of Creation Apocalypse, the upcoming fantasy MMO's battle royale part is going into Steam Early Access as a free download with cosmetic microtransactions and battle pass on 24 September 2019.
Ashes of Creation is the long-awaited MMO that has been in development by Intrepid Studios and crowdfunded for years already but the full game is seemingly still years away from release. Meanwhile, the fans will get access to Apocalypse which is just the battle royale part of the game.
On the bright side, it will be free to play with no pay to win elements once it releases on 24 September 2019, as an Early Access title. Oddly enough, there was no store page for anything related to Ashes of Creation at the time of writing, just three days before it's supposed to go live. Furthermore, Intrepid stated they have no intention of supporting Ashes of Creation MMO on Steam at this time so it's only the battle royale section that is coming.
Anyway, Intrepid announced that while the game will not be paid to play nor pay to win, it will contain microtransactions as funding has to come from somewhere. According to the official announcement and FAQ , the game will contain only cosmetic purchases along with a battle pass that is called Adventure Path or Legendary Path. The latter is the paid one.
One caveat is that players will need to have an Intrepid account on top of the Steam one if they want to play Apocalypse in Early Access. On the other hand, it is possible to bypass Steam if someone doesn't want two launchers so only an Intrepid account will suffice and players can download the client from the official website.
Unfortunately, there are no official system requirements yet so it would be wise to wait until the Steam page is up and verify whether your rig can run the game there.
