Riot Games has been actively working to create a more positive gaming environment in League of Legends. Their efforts began with addressing toxicity by implementing an automated mute system. They also introduced the Bystander Feedback System, which encourages players to report disruptive behavior.
Despite these improvements, Riot acknowledges that more is needed to tackle the ongoing issues. To address this, they proposed the Ranked Penalties system, an idea that piqued the interest of many players.
Now, in Patch 13.19, Riot is unveiling the Ranked Queue Penalties System, a significant step in their ongoing efforts to enhance player behavior and sportsmanship.
Ranked Queue Penalties System
- The system will target various offensive actions, such as leaving matches, going AFK, violating gameplay rules, and engaging in harmful chat behavior.
- Players who accumulate Ranked Queue Penalties will be required to play remedial games in non-ranked queues, provided they exhibit positive behavior.
- These remedial games can be played in Blind Pick, Draft Pick, ARAM, and the RGM queue (which includes modes like Arena and Nexus Blitz).
While some players have expressed concerns about the new system, including the potential for players to switch accounts to evade penalties and the fear of disruptive behavior spilling into casual game modes, Riot is committed to addressing toxicity without segregating players into different queues.
The remedial system is part of Riot's ongoing efforts to create a more enjoyable gaming environment in League of Legends.
While skepticism is natural, the changes appear to be a well-thought-out response to the longstanding issue of toxicity in the game.
More details will be available when the full Patch 13.19 notes are released.
