PlayStation 5 console exclusive Helldivers 2 has seen massive success since its launch a couple of days ago, both on console and Steam.
However, the launch did not go as smoothly as developer Arrowhead Studios probably hoped it would. Players reported connectivity issues and various bugs but also some unusual design decisions like the friendly fire one.
Friendly fire is active in Helldivers 2 by design choice but players have been wondering on Reddit and social media if this is something that can be turned off as it can be annoying when you accidentally shoot your buddies.
Helldivers 2 friendly fire
You can't turn off friendly fire in Helldivers 2 as the developers never added that option to the game. Arrowhead Studios have been pretty clear that Friendly Fire will stay in Helldivers 2, as it's one of the core design choices.
There are no plans to add an option to turn off friendly fire in future updates. Here's what the team said regarding friendly fire: "We will not add an "off" option to Helldivers as friendly fire centres around one of our core design choices. It is very important to us that our game worlds are believable and learning to operate as a team is an important part of Helldivers."
So there you have it folks. Friendly fire is staying in Helldivers 2 so you better start getting used to it. Or you know, play strategically, take different positions so your squadmates are far from getting into your line of sight.
