Helldivers 2 is a survival shooter game from Sony Entertainment developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. The game is a direct sequel to the 2015 top-down shooter Helldivers and is currently available on PC and PlayStation 5.
In Helldivers 2, players are tasked with stopping invading forces- Terminids and Automatons. The Automatons are the hardest to take down of the two invading forces without proper loadout setup. If you're looking to fight the most challenging group of invaders in Helldivers 2, here are the best loadouts you should consider using.
Best Loadouts to Defeat Automatons
Automatons are pretty different from Terminids. While Terminids can tank bullets for a while, the Automatons absorb everything thrown at them until they reach you. You'll encounter Automatons on Medium to Higher-difficulty planets.
Low-Level Loadout to Use Against Automatons
You might want to avoid the Automatons if you've just started playing Helldivers 2. However, if you're eager to take up a challenge, here's the best loadout to use:
- Weapons
- AR-23 Liberator
- P-2 Peacemaker
- Explosive
- G-12 High Explosive
The best weapons to use against Automatons for low-level Helldivers are the AR-23 Liberator and P-2 Peacemaker. The AR-23 Liberator is a primary weapon with a moderate fire rate but excellent damage output if you hit your shots. On the other hand, the G-12 High Explosive is a superb choice for crowd control.
- Stratagems
- Support Weapon: Expendable Anti-Tank or Stalwart
- Eagle Cluster Bomb
- Orbital Gatling Barrage
- Gatling Sentry
The Expendable Anti-tank is a one-shot special weapon capable of shredding Armor from Automatons. However, if you want to dump lead into the Bots, we recommend using the Stalwart. Its 150-round magazine is an excellent option for dealing damage to a complete horde.
For other stratagems, the Gatling Sentry is very efficient at dealing with consecutive damage from long-range if appropriately placed. As for dealing mass damage to the Automatons, we recommend using the Eagle Cluster Bomb and Orbital Gatling Barrage.
High-Level Loadout to Use Against Automatons
With difficulty levels increasing, Automatons become more complicated to defeat. They set up stationary and dynamic patrols throughout the mission area. So, if you're going against Automatons on difficulty levels above Challenging, here are the best loadouts you should consider using:
- Weapons
- SG-225 Breaker
- P-19 Redeemer
- Explosive
- G-12 High Explosive
The best weapons to use against Automatons for high-level Helldivers are the SG-225 Breaker and P-19 Redeemer. The SG-225 Breaker is one of the strongest Shotguns in the game and is very effective against most Automaton classes. As usual, the G-12 High Explosive is superb for crowd control.
- Stratagems
- Support Weapon: Spear
- Eagle 500KG Bomb
- EMS Mortar Sentry
- Orbital Laser
The Spear is the best Support Weapon to stop Bot Drops. A shot from the Spear will instantly take down a Bot Dropship before it gets a chance to unload the Automatons.
The EMS Mortar Sentry is the most effective stratagem against Automatons. Once an Automaton gets hit by an EMS Mortar shell, it becomes immobilized for a specific time. As soon as the EMS Mortar gets activated, throw out your Eagle 500KG bomb and Orbital Laser, allowing you to take out a significant portion of Automatons deployed in the combat area.
We recommend using Heavy Armor specifically with Extra Padding for low-level and high-level loadouts. The Automatons are deadly accurate at longer ranges, so without heavy armor, you'll be dead in no time. A friendly reminder for all Helldivers - Try to communicate with your fellow Helldivers before using your Stratagems; if your teammates keep getting caught in the crossfire, you'll run out of Reinforce stratagems before extraction.
