The publisher Take-Two announced that Borderlands series has sold more than five million copies in the last three months, meaning that the lifetime sales are now at 48 million. The sales were boosted by the reveal of Borderlands 3.

The upcoming release of Gearbox Software's looter-shooter Borderlands 3 has boosted the sales of previous games in Borderlands series according to the latest announcement from the publisher Take-Two Interactive.

Borderlands 2 has seen a massive influx of players after the reveal of Borderlands 3 and also sold like hotcakes. In the last three months, the franchise reached 48 million sold copies, which is up from 43 million the company reported last quarter.

This means that since Borderlands 3 reveal, more than five million copies of Borderlands games have been sold across all major platforms. Borderlands 2 accounts for 22 million copies, which is up from 20 million sales reported three months ago.

As for the upcoming title - Borderlands 3, Take-Two Interactive said that they want to "grow sales with each title", which implies that Take-Two expect more than 20 million lifetime sales for the upcoming RPG shooter.

Of course, Borderlands 3 is not the only reason for the increased sales in the last couple of months. Gearbox and Take-Two also released a remastered version of the original Borderlands game, which surely contributed to the overall sales.

Whether Borderlands 3 manages to reach these numbers remains to be seen. It will also be interesting to see just how good or bad the game will sell on PC, where Borderlands 3 is exclusive to Epic Games Store for one year. It was a pretty controversial move which Epic Games and Take-Two announced earlier this year.
