Stardew Valley's multiplayer mode is reportedly complete and Eric ''ConcernedApe'' Barone, the game's developer confirmed we will get to play it soon, more precisely it's spring 2018.

In a recent update on Barone's website, he elaborated that in the past he always worked alone on the game and to properly shape the multiplayer word he had to bring in some help, in the form of Chucklefish's Tom Coxon.

Stardew Valley will get its official multiplayer component in the large scale update 1.3. Barone said that multiplayer funcionality has been completed, thanks to the help he got from Coxon, who has ''done all the network coding to turn Stardew Valley into a multiplayer game''.

ConcernedApe didn't let anyone in on the exact release date, as he may not know it himself yet. He noted though that the update will come after ''rigorous QA testing'' adding that the ''work on the new features is done'' and all the new text has been sent off to be translated into different languages.

Meanwhile, Barone and Coxon will be working on bug fixes and after the translated texts have been received and integrated into the game, the ''rigorous'' QA phase will ensue. It will involve thorough testing of the new features in both single player and multiplayer modes. The update should be ready for an open beta after these tests are done and Barone reassured players that he is still aiming for a ''spring release for the beta''.

It is worth noting that a large portion of the game's player base consists of people from southern hemisphere and therefore ''spring release'' will actually mean ''autumn release'' for them. Barone said more info will come as the open beta approaches but in the meantime he left a screenshot showing the game's new signs.
