After many leaks and rumours, PlayStation 5 Pro is official

PlayStation 5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and it will cost $699.99 / £699.99 / €799.99 without the disc drive and vertical stand.

During today's special presentation, Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro console details including the release date, price and new features.

PlayStation 5 Pro will bring several improvements over the original model including better visuals and frame-rate in Performance Mode, a new Super Resolution, improved ray-tracing performance and 2TB SSD.

All these fancy new upgrades mean PlayStation 5 Pro will be one pricey console. Depending on your region, you'll have to pay $699.99 £699.99 €799.99 or ¥119,980.

The price is for the Digital version of the consoles that does not include a vertical stand accessory. If you plan on buying both of these parts, the price will likely be closer to $850, which really is a very high asking price.

PlayStation 5 Pro Features

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro comes a new GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: Improved and powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: New PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

Many players on gaming forums and social media seem to be baffled by Sony's decision to offer the PS5 Pro at these prices. Some argue that adding a couple of hundred bucks and buying a mid-range PC would be a smarter decision and I couldn't agree more.

Sony probably took the opportunity to sell the PS5 Pro at a higher price since they won't have any competition from Xbox, who will be skipping the mid-gen refresh this time around.

Anyways, here's a quick PS5 Pro video if you want to see everything that this new console offers. For more details, check Sony's official blog post.
