The later used to be another one in a relatively lengthy line of BUILD engine shooters, sharing its origins with Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of the Triad and Blood.

Out of the numbered lot, Shadow Warrior is the only one that managed to hop from nostalgia darling to full fledged viable franchise. It's a tongue-in-cheek romp at kung-fu movies of the 80's and 90's, similar to what Duke was for action heroes, and Blood for horror cliches of the era. A never ending string of references and one-liners from a time when gaming was less concerned with appearing politically correct.

Both are now grown up, centered around Poland, and as DRM-free as they can possibly be.
