It wasn't only the close release and teasing of the two new additions to these two Riot games that made fans speculate about their connection, but their similarities as well, which Riot have now officially confirmed.
Beyond gunplay, Zeri’s development started with another goal, which was making a League champ and a VALORANT agent in tandem. Around 20% of League players also play VAL, so Riot, apparently, wanted to see if they could make a set of characters that felt similar so you could run it down on your main in both games.
League and VALORANT don’t have much in common unless you count Scuttle. But one of the underlying similarities in both games is that the playable characters have unique sources of power.
“I worked closely with Riot Sojyoo and one of the senior concept artists on VALORANT, Konstantin ‘Zoonoid’ Maystrenko to brainstorm a lot of different ideas,” recalls concept art lead, Gem “Lonewingy” Lim. “We had so many ideas! Origami paper magic, graffiti, fog and soot, light magic, liquid metal and mercury, human printer, baseball girl, VR gamer girl... And then someone suggested a bioluminescent, electric eel girl, which we all thought was really cool.”
WIth both Zeri, and the, yet to be released, Neon, sharing power sources as well as inspiration for their characters, we can expect their abilities to be relatively similar as well. So, game analysts of various fan bases, Zeri's abilities are a known quantity, extrapolate upon them and make some conclusions on what Neon will have at her disposal!
