Pocket Pair's Palworld took the gaming world by storm after its release in January this year. The game's premise takes the survival genre and pairs it with a new mechanic that enables players to capture pals and use them in combat and survival.
Labelled "Pokemon with Guns," Palworld is one of the biggest hits of this year. The game brought in more than half a million players after launch. While the game's player count has declined since then, Palworld still remains a popular title in the survival genre.
To shake up things, Pocket Pair has announced a new update titled "Sakurajima," which will bring new content and a controversial microtransaction feature with Pal skins.
Palworld's new Microtransaction feature
In a recent twitter post, Pocket Pair announced that in the new Palworld Sakurajima update that is introducing Pal skins to the game.
While Palworld's added customisation is a welcomed feature for most players. Pocket Pair plans to place a microtransaction model that will allow players to purchase skins for their Pals.
The new decision to add microtransaction has been met with positive response from many players who are willing to support the Palworld devs in their journey to make them game better with time.
However, Pocket Pair's new plan to introduce a microtransaction model into their almost perfect game has left many players disappointed. While the Pal skins are not mandatory, most players would want to grind for these skins rather than buying them with their hard earned money.
The Palworld Sakurajima update is coming out on June 27 adding new biomes, new Pals and additional gameplay features. Pocket Pair's new decision comes in line with their efforts to jumpstart their declining player base. However, introducing microtransaction to a game like Palworld might have dire consequences in the long run.
