If you've been considering to give Monster Hunter: World a go on PlayStation 4, then Capcom and Sony have you covered and you can take the game out for a spin until 20 May 2019, at 23:59 UTC, for free, and see whether it's your cup of tea.

So, prospective Monster Hunter: World players will get to create their characters and take their place in the Research Commission, with all the quests up to Hunter Rank 4 / 3★ available.

Monster Hunter: World trial covers only two of the story's five locations, and we're talking about the Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste.

As is common with these trials, the progress you make during the trial of Monster Hunter: World will carry over into the full game, should you choose to go for the full game.

Monster Hunter series has done pretty well for Capcom, flogging 54 million units so far, with Monster Hunter: World accounting for a large chunk of those sales.

In fact, as part of their report for the fiscal year ending with 31 March 2019, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter: World shipments have exceeded 12 million copies so far, which means MH:W is their best selling game in the franchise and their entire offer.

Capcom said how the game's PC version exceeded expectations too since its launch on Steam in August 2018, which is quite the feat for a traditionally console/handheld offering.

If you're pondering whether to jump aboard the Monster Hunter: World train, you should know that Capcom are scheduled to launch the game's first expansion Iceborne on 06 September 2019, which they promise will feature at least as much gameplay material as the base game.

We're talking about a paid expansion though, but the dev will have some special offers for the whole bundle, should the trial be enough to convince you it's worth the investment.

In our review , Subreal gave Monster Hunter: World 8/10, writing, "A few hours into the game though, I was gripped. Totally immersed, if not into the story, then definitely into the world. This game has a fair bit of complexity to it, even though it doesn't seem like it straight away, and will certainly keep you engaged for a while."
