Mojang made their official statement on NFTs and rebuked the system for the time being. The wording implies there could be a scenario where NFTs could pop up in Minecraft later on.
Mojang published their official statement regarding NFTs, support for the system and potential integration in Minecraft .
"While we are in the process of updating our Minecraft Usage Guidelines to offer more precise guidance on new technologies, we wanted to take the opportunity to share our view that integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are generally not something we will support or allow."
With the statement above, it all starts well enough, noting that NFTs are not welcome in Minecraft, they are not something that the team will support or allow. Such a stance could get the player base's hopes up as they wouldn't have to worry about predatory parties ruining their fun, with another statement affirming the stance in the post later on.
"...blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods."
This still sounds good but in the very next sentence, Mojang made it clear that no doors are closed for NFTs in Minecraft.
"We will also be paying close attention to how blockchain technology evolves over time to ensure that the above principles are withheld and determine whether it will allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming"
Per this statement, should blockchain and NFTs find a way to become more "safe" for regular gamers, the technology could very well be implemented in Minecraft. Mojang didn't explicitly say so but there is no other reason for that sentence to exist in that particular blog post .
Granted, this is generally a much better approach than Ubisoft's head-first dive into NFTs and blockchain but even in a world where these things are "safe" for gamers, there is still no reason for them to exist since things like Steam Community Market exist.
