Microsoft renewed the Sacebound trademark and the rumors about the project being alive gained some traction. The have been debunked and there is "Nothing to see here folks."
Scalebound was supposed to be an action role-playing video game, and it was under development by Platinum Games. Microsoft was credited as publisher and it was slated for a release in 2017 for Xbox One and PC, but instead they announced that the game was cancelled in January this year.
Now, for all of you out there still hoping to traverse the world od Draconis as Drew, there are some news. I'm not saying this is any confirmation that the game is back on track, but there was some rustling in the leaves, and now, we're going to speculate.
First there was this tweet:
And then the people started asking questions and presenting pros and cons for a scenario in which Microsoft was really trying to go through with the Drew thing. And so, a photo of Scalebound's trademark details found its way onto twitter. Apparently Microsoft went through the trouble of renewing the "Scalebound" trademark and they will try to go at it without Platinum Games' help.
Platinum has a lot of projects going at the moment anyway, but Microsoft could certainly use a win especially with Sony's game line-up for this year being so very tempting. Be that as it may, this is not the safest bet Microsoft could have made as the game didn’t look very impressive at its gameplay demonstrations. It was plagued with inconsistent framerates and a clunky combat system, not something we'd expect from Platinum Games.
Even if this is all true and the production restarts or even reboots, we wouldn't see the game out for a while. Microsoft's notable games that are coming out in 2017 include Crackdown, Sea of Thieves and Forza Motorsport 7. Forza will most certainly be a launch title for Project Scorpio.
And who says Scalebound has to come in the form of a video-game? A movie, a comic book or a series are all viable options nowadays. Or better yet, a comic book, then a movie based on it, and after that: a series spinoff on how Thuban fulfills his dream of being a world renowned pastry chef.
