Hideo Kojima has denied rumours that his Kojima Productions studio is joining the PlayStation Studios family.
Rumours regarding another Sony acquisition have surfaced once again recently and this time, it was Kojima Productions that were supposedly joining the PlayStation Studios family.
An updated website banner on the official PlayStation website fueled the speculation about Kojima joining PlayStation but just like we mentioned in that report, the banner probably had nothing to do with any potential acquisitions.
Today, Hideo Kojima himself has clarified that his Kojima Productions studio is and will remain independent. Kojima tweeted a logo of PS studios in his own cheeky manner, before adding the following:
"I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS has been and will continue to be an independent studio."
So it does seem like Sony won't acquire Kojima Productions at least not in the coming months but we still think there is a chance that one day PlayStation Studios welcomes this special studio.
The two parties have been working together for a long long time and it would only come naturally to expand that partnership. Whether or not that happens, it remains to be seen but we certainly wouldn't cross Kojima's studio off the "Sony potential acquisitions" list.
Hideo Kojima is also rumoured to be working with PlayStation's main competitor - Xbox. Apparently, Kojima is building a cloud-native game using Microsoft's cloud tech.
Keep in mind that this is just a rumour at this point but if it's indeed true, we may hear something about this partnership at the Xbox summer games showcase in June.
