If there have been any concerns over the new God of War, they had to be dispelled by now. Indeed, the game's director Cory Barlog can rest, because God of War not only garnered critical acclaim - it's doing well on the financial side too.

Be advised however that boxed sales are used more as an indicator of sales trends, seeing as how they don't include games without physical copies. Having said that, let's move onto the list.

God of War is said to be the fastest selling title in the franchise's history and that's just going by physical sales. In fact, Kratos' new gig sold 35 percent more copies than God of War III, which launched back in 2010.

Interestingly enough, God of War, which is a PlayStation 4 exclusive, beat Far Cry 5, which is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On the other hand, it's a pretty quiet time for triple A gaming and as a result Far Cry 5 has held the pole position for three weeks running.

Yakuza 6: Song of Life came in third and it's said to be the franchise's best result, albeit not by much. Namely, its predecessor Yakuza Kiwami sold 300 copies less. Note that Yakuza 6 and God of War are the only newcomers on the list.

FIFA 18, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, PUBG and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild seem to be maintaining a steady presence on boxed charts, where the first few rarely even leave top 10, despite occasional reshuffling.

Interestingly enough, selling less than a 1,000 copies would've been enough to get in the chart, which further shows just how quiet this period is. In fact, Mario Kart 7 managed to climb back onto position number 40, despite its big brother Mario Kart 8 being higher up the list.
