Epic Games have introduced a brand new game mode for Fortnite named Impostors. The concept of the mode and the map are extremely similar to InnerSloth's Among Us.
Among Us developers, InnerSloth are not happy with how Epic Games basically copied their mega-popular game to bring a brand new game mode to Fortnite. Named Impostors, the new mode is now live on all platforms. Here's how Epic Games describe Impostors in the official announcement:
"The Impostors’ goal is simple — eliminate enough Agents to take control of The Bridge before being discovered. You’ll have plenty of tools up your sleeve to sow chaos along the way. Disable Assignments - Temporarily freeze progress on all Assignments, buying you precious time. Teleport Players - Relocate all Agents and Impostors to somewhere else on The Bridge, covering your tracks. Peely Party - For a short time, all Agents and Impostors look like Peely so you can blend in with the crowd!"
Sound familiar? Yeah, it's a carbon copy of Among Us and even the map in Impostors is similar to the one in Among Us, with some distinction here and there. Check it out below:
Among Us community director Victoria Tran tweeted that it would be cool to collaborate with Epic on this mode and that copying game mechanics is fine but at the same time, Epic could at least pick different themes and terminology for their mode.
"It would've been really, really cool to collab," she tweeted. "Like game mechanics fine, those shouldn't be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?"
So yeah, it's safe to say that Epic Games could have reached out to InnerSloth and work together with the devs on this mode. It's safe to say that for such a small studio like InnerSloth, it would mean a lot to work with one of the biggest developers and publishers in the world.
