Techland, the company behind Dying Light 2, recently discussed progress made on the highly anticipated sequel and revealed that the game's trademark parkour move set has not only been expanded - it actually ties into combat better too.

Dying Light 2's lead designer Tymon Smektala reminded that the game's predecessor featured parkour mostly as a finishing move, "like drop-kicking an enemy off a rooftop". Worry not, since the changes will only add functionality to what is already quite a satisfying finisher.

Smektala says that Techland added plenty of moves in Dying Light 2 that let you create an opening, start a fight or do something while fighting. This should not only ensure that parkour ties into the game better, it should help the general flow along, at least in terms of immersion.

Dying Light 2 is additionally notable for participation by Chris Avellone, who's launched Pathfinder: Kingmaker only recently yet doesn't seem keen on resting or anything of the sort. Smektala stressed that his expertise in everything RPG was one of the main reasons for bringing him onboard.

"We have a whole wall in our narrative team’s room devoted to presenting the relationships – sticky notes, pictures, print-outs with arrows connecting them", Smektala said and added that the players are the ultimate directors. Players create their city, a version that not only has a different narrative, but a different kind of gameplay", he added.

Techland already discussed how they've tried to make Dying Light 2's world as organic as possible and that there are no right or wrong choices. For instance, factions like Peacekeepers may be useful in clearing out infestations but their stay may turn out to be just as detrimental.

Smektala also said that the team tried to make Dying Light 2 resemble medieval times, with plenty of intrigue yet harsh laws, brought about by scarcity of just about everything.

Dying Light 2 will be launching for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One once it's done, so Techland are keeping the date an open affair at the moment.
