Blizzard have posted the last quarterly update on Diablo 4, that is last in 2020, where they talked about items, skill tree, weapon types, inscriptions, and more.
According to Blizzard, Diablo 4 development is going fine so they wanted to talk about the changes they've made. Overall, they aimed for three things:
- First, we want to strengthen class identity by providing intuitive fantasy hooks. Items and skills that lean into the fantasy of your class are best
- Second, we want to support deeper customization through our itemization. Items should support and enhance your class, not define it
- Finally, we’re landing on overall depth somewhere between Diablo II and Diablo III. We aim to provide years of things to discover and countless ways to build a class
The team has been reviewing fan feedback on Diablo 4's skill tree, and although they'll allow for respec, it will be pricier the further along in the game you are.
When it comes to items, Blizzard wanted to provide a healthy variety of magical Diablo 4 items, which is why they increased the maximum number of affixes on Rare and better items in the endgame. Legendaries will roll randomly, while Unique items replace Mythics.
Legendary Diablo 4 items will basically behave as Rare items with one affix coming as a legendary effect. There are some Unique Items as well.
Blizzard said that the next update will take place during BlizzConline, and it apparently involves a "new version of the campfire scene we showed you last BlizzCon."
