Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have released Dead or Alive beta exclusively for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The beta is available to download on the PS Store and will run until 14 January 2018 with five characters available for testing.
Just a couple of days after they confirmed two weeks of delay, Koei Tecmo surprisingly launched a Dead or Alive 6 beta for PlayStation 4 without any prior announcement.
In a tweet announcing the online beta, Koei Tecmo confirmed that testing will run for 72 hours - from 11 January to 14 January 2019. Players will get to play with five different characters including Kasumi, Ayane, Hayabusa, Hayate, and one of the newcomers - Diego.
The publisher made it clear that the beta is exclusive to PlayStation 4 and won't appear on Steam or the Xbox Store. Additionally, those who want to take part will need a PlayStation Plus subscription as the beta is online only.
Some would question Koei Tecmo's decision to launch an online beta only on PS4. Of course, it's always good to give players a chance to try the game and see what they can expect in the final release, but to offer it only on one platform is a bit peculiar.
As for the fighting arenas, Koei Tecmo stayed silent and didn't offer any info which disappointed some fans who also expected more fighters and overall richer content in the beta.
Koei Tecmo earlier confirmed that Dead or Alive 6 will feature more than 25 playable fighters. Some of the confirmed brawlers are Bayman, Bass, Jan Lee, Hitomi, Marie Rose, Helena, Tina, Mila and Rig. Two additional fighters, Phase 4 and Nyotengu will enter the game's roster through DLC. More characters which will push the total number over 30 are expected to be revealed soon.
Players will get to fight on ten stages and some of them are a research facility Zero, autumn forest Hidden Garden, Unforgettable, which will combine a number of locations from previous Dead or Alive games and the wrestling ring arena called The Muscle.
Dead or Alive 6 was scheduled to launch on 06 February 2019 before Koei Tecmo decided to delay the game to 01 March 2019 release date. They explained the decision by saying that they need more time to further polish and balance gameplay and expressivity.
