Riot Games sacks Klein and Lehman, no word about sea lions

League of Legends - SK Gaming's captain, Ocelote, was openly shedding tears after xPeke's backdoor.

Riot Games, developer perhaps best known for League of Legends, announced that they have parted ways with employees Daniel Z. Klein and Mattias Lehman over what Riot perceive as breach of the company's policy on social media conduct.

Well, for League of Legends and the recent twitter war over what the public claimed to be was fighting sexism with sexism. Regardless of what it was though, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but Riot Games actually behaved like a class act.

The event that brought out a surprising amount of hatred in such a short period of time was held after all, with Riot waiting until PAX West was over to make the difficult call. I know, a layoff is a layoff but this shows the sort of class you're not used to seeing from Riot.

Even though they were asked to refrain from taking part in the controversy, Klein and Lehman proceeded to do so on their own accord. In the process, emotions got through the door and reason went , as it oh so commonly happens.

To be fair, most of the damage has already been done and regardless of your stance in the matter - Riot has a difficult job ahead of them without the additional drama caused by emotional employees. It had come into light that the company's recruitment policies have inadvertently encouraged creation of a culture that isn't quite receptive of females.

Again in Riot's defence, they've acknowledged their mistakes and seem to be genuine in their intentions to change for the better. Granted, it's not much, but at least shows responsibility and willingness for change, which unfortunately had to start with Klein and Lehman leaving.

Interestingly, the number of cases where a company is forced into laying off an overzealous employee seems to be on the rise. Peculiarly enough, both Jessica Price's and Klein's issues can be attributed to to emotional reactions when what we needed were factual discussions. I guess that some people's PR agents need a PR agent.
