Cyberpunk 2077 uses advanced AI named JALI for facial animations instead of traditional motion capture. With this tech, the game will have full lip sync for all ten dubbed languages.
Cyberpunk 2077 is less than a month away from its long-awaited release, which sounds almost surreal, to be honest. This year's biggest title will bring a vast open-world, branching storyline, character customisation and tons of dialogue, just like a proper RPG should do.
Today, we got some new details about the game, that once again reveals just how big Cyberpunk 2077 actually is. We learned that Cyberpunk 2077 will have full lip sync for every 10 languages with native localisation.
This means that if you decide to play the game in German, you'll get to see respective lip sync on the in-game characters. This is certainly a great addition since it gets a bit awkward to watch characters speaking English but all you can hear is German. The same goes for other languages which include Polish, Japanese and Spanish to name a few.
CD Projekt Red confirmed that in order to achieve this, they did not use traditional facial motion capture. Instead, they picked an alternative option named JALI, which is an AI program that procedurally analyses and animates lip sync animations. You can check out the process in the video below.
Of course, we will have to wait and see how this method works once we get our hands on the game, but judging by the released footage and the video above, it looks like the animations are pretty spot on.
Cyberpunk 2077 is officially coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. The release date is set for November 19, 2020.
