Borderlands 3 is the latest game to be pulled from Epic Games Store Megasale, despite the initial optimism of Gearbox Software's CEO, Randy Pitchford. The details of game pulling are still hidden but there are theories flying around.

Tim Sweeney's attempt to beat Gabe Newell to the first sale of 2019's summer has hit another hurdle. It looks like 2K pulled Borderlands 3 from Epic Games Store entirely for the time being.

Borderlands 3 is only the latest in a string of games that were removed from the store, despite Epic Games soaking up the cost of the $10 discount. Paradox Interactive were probably the biggest splash before this when they removed Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 from the store.

To make matters even weirder, Randy Pitchford the CEO of Gearbox Software, gave Epic his blessing by publicly supporting the sale, even telling his followers on Twitter that they could pre-order Borderlands 3 with a $10 discount on Epic Games Store.

However, when the game was pulled from Epic Store, Pitchford's tweet also mysteriously disappeared. Therefore, it is highly likely 2K were the ones who made the call to remove Borderlands 3 from the sale, not Gearbox.

Unlike Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 though, the option to pre-order Borderlands 3 was removed from every storefront, including the game's official website.

There are many possibilities why the games keep disappearing from Epic Games Store's shelf during the sale but one one of the most likely scenarios is that publishers don't want their games to lose perceived value from the customer.

Putting a discount on a game that is not even out of the pre-order stage yet could lead potential buyers to stop on the brake and not purchase Borderlands 3 or VTMB2 at full price as both games were already available with a $10 discount.

Furthermore, due to regional pricing, AAA games can go for as little as $16 . With Epic's discount, it would mean some players could buy AAA games at mere $6 which could potentially open a whole new can of worms that no one wants.
