Acquiring all the trophies in this game isn't overly challenging, as there are only a few optional letters to collect; the game lacks traditional collectibles. However, certain trophies heavily depend on the decisions you make, and even a single mistake in your answers can result in the trophy remaining locked. Therefore, careful decision-making is essential for unlocking them all.
In this guide, we'll provide you with all the necessary decisions to unlock three crucial trophies that may remain locked if not made carefully. These trophies are "Charlie's Angel," "A Brighter Shade of Violet," and "Hutr Healed." Additionally, there's a fourth trophy, "Take Care of Athena," which is not in the same category as the previous ones but still relies on your decisions.
Steps towards unlocking Platinum in Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals
As previously mentioned, achieving the platinum trophy requires three playthroughs, with each playthrough associated with one specific trophy. You'll need to make crucial decisions about who enters the portal among Riley, Jacob, or Olivia in each playthrough to unlock these trophies.
To reduce the number of playthroughs to three, you can follow a specific path. In one playthrough, befriend Charlie and Violet, and this will unlock two trophies related to their friendships. In another playthrough, befriend Violet and Olivia while excluding Charlie. This way, you can achieve multiple trophies in a single playthrough.
When setting up the first transmitter, whether you choose the One that ties into the Charlie story or the Violet story, befriend both on your first pass. First, don't interfere with the walkie talkie call when the kids are talking; just listen to the conversation. When you are faced with the part where you will talk to Violet, choose a soft approach, and at the end of the conversation, choose the option to give her instructions on how to get home. This approach will help you become friends with Violet.
To befriend Charlie, consistently opt for a calm approach during your conversations with him. When Jacob expresses the desire to attack Charlie, make sure to stop him. It's advisable to pause the game during these moments when the options appear on the screen and carefully consider which option is aggressive and which is mild. Always choose the mild option to nurture a friendship with Charlie.
To befriend Olivia, you'll need to put some effort into your decisions. First, ensure that you are friends with Violet but not with Charlie, as this will prevent Olivia from feeling rejected. During the race for the radio, refrain from breaking it; instead, keep it intact, as breaking the radio is tied to one of the trophies. Reserve this action for a playthrough where you have no intention of becoming friends with Olivia.
To strengthen your friendship with Olivia, consistently opt for a gentle approach when talking to her. Whenever her parents are mentioned, choose the option that shows empathy and support. During the installation of the last transmitter in Garland, interact with the broken machine and head towards the church. You will receive a call from Olivia, and once again, choose the supportive approach. If you've made the right choices so far, as you descend the ladder towards the second machine, you will receive another call from Olivia, and this time, you'll be presented with the option to choose to be friends. This will serve as an indicator that you are on the right track to becoming friends with Olivia.
Lastly, when you reach the room where you have to choose which character to enter the portal, it's crucial to select either Riley or Jacob if you aim to achieve friendship with Olivia. Therefore, make sure to pursue this trophy in one of these two playthroughs.
To unlock Jacob's trophy, "Take Care of Athena," you'll need to be deliberately obnoxious to Jacob in one of the playthroughs. Choose all the wrong answers and ignore his questions. It's worth noting that this can be the most challenging trophy to achieve since Jacob is a very likeable character, and being mean to him feels uncomfortable, but it's necessary to obtain the trophy.
During this specific playthrough, avoid looking for letters, and if you happen to take one, avoid taking the final one. When Jacob asks you to inquire about "The Dumbest Question," refuse to answer it. Similarly, decline to play word games with him. Additionally, refrain from telling him about your pregnancy, remain patient, and don't respond; wait until the prompt disappears after approximately ten seconds. These choices are crucial to unlocking Jacob's trophy, "Take Care of Athena."
