Helldivers 2 is a horde shooter title released by Sony Entertainment and developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. The game is a direct sequel to the 2015 title, Helldivers.
In Helldivers 2, players must drive off hordes of Automatons and Terminids racing towards Super Earth by conquering different planets along the way. To stop them, Helldivers are provided with a large arsenal of stratagems and field weapons, such as the SEAF Artillery. If you stumble across a SEAF Artillery during your mission, here's how it works.
How to Use the SEAF Artillery
The SEAF Artillery is one of the most powerful weapons in Helldivers 2. It can fire up to five artillery shells at a target area, causing fire, electricity, and smoke. This also includes a mini-nuke with a gigantic blast radius equivalent to the Hellbomb.
The SEAF Artillery is free to unlock, but it can only be accessed by randomly discovering its artillery site during missions. Furthermore, the SEAF Artillery has no specific location in Helldivers 2.
The first step after finding a SEAF Artillery is to activate the nearby Artillery Terminal. It will start the shell loading process, which asks you to insert a maximum of five shells into the Artillery. The shells will always be spread throughout the Artillery site, so you or your team will have to look for them and bring them one by one back to the SEAF Artillery chamber.
All SEAF Artillery Shell Types
There are four types of artillery shells, each with a distinctive colour and effect, with random availability. Here's how they work in-game:
Explosive Shell
The Explosive Shell is marked by a red tip. It inflicts the most damage from the impact of the three types of shells. Any enemy type that withstands the blast area will sustain fire damage over time.
Mini-Nuke Shell
The Mini-Nuke Shell is marked by a yellow tip. It demolishes an entire area, sparing nothing in its blast radius. Each artillery site can have only one of these. They resemble Smoke Shells, so you will need to read their item prompts to figure out which type of shell you are transporting.
The Mini-Nuke shell is great for clearing Large Terminid Nests and Automaton Outposts from a distance. Moreover, you can also shred through a Bile Titan if it suffers from a direct impact from the Mini-Nuke shell.
Smoke Shell
The Smoke Shell is also marked by a yellow tip. It delivers the least damage of all types of shells while generating a smoke screen in the blast area to provide cover.
Static Shell
The Static Shell is marked by a blue tip. It deals less damage to the enemy armour. After the blast, an electric field will appear that slows and stuns all enemies caught inside.
SEAF Artillery Tips and Tricks
After loading the shells into the Artillery chamber, the SEAF artillery becomes available as a team stratagem. However, the SEAF Artillery has limited uses; you'll be able to use the artillery support until the shell runs out. The SEAF Artillery stratagem is available until extraction, even if your other stratagems stop working.
For higher difficulties, the SEAF Artillery is a great option to create space between you and the hordes of enemies. As for ammo shells, we recommend using the Explosive and Nuke shells, as they deal the most damage to all enemy types in the game.
On the other hand, the Smoke Shell and Static Shell are excellent for dealing with the Automatons. You can easily stop Automatons from rushing a point using the Static Shell, and the Smoke Shell can help you break their sightline easily.
