Assassin's Creed is an action-adventure franchise developed and published by Ubisoft, launched in November 2007 with the original game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Set across a broad range of historical periods and locations, the series follows the perpetual conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order, framed through a modern-day narrative device involving a technology called the Animus that allows users to relive the genetic memories of their ancestors.

Over nearly two decades, the franchise has grown into one of the best-selling video game series in history, with over 200 million units sold across mainline entries and spin-offs as of 2023. Landmark titles include Assassin's Creed II (2009), widely regarded as one of the finest games of its generation; Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2013), which reinvented the formula around naval exploration and piracy; and Assassin's Creed Origins (2017), which relaunched the series with a deeper RPG structure following a two-year hiatus.

Subsequent RPG-focused entries Odyssey (2018) and Valhalla (2020) each sold tens of millions of copies and expanded the series into open-world epics spanning ancient Greece and Viking Age England respectively. Assassin's Creed Mirage (2023) returned to the series' roots with a tighter, city-focused stealth experience, and Assassin's Creed Shadows (2025), set in feudal Japan with dual protagonists Naoe and Yasuke, sold over three million copies in its first week and became one of the fastest-selling entries in the franchise.
