Ubisoft have announced that For Honor will have a free weekend running from 3 to 6 May 2018. It is somewhat odd they're announcing it two weeks ahead, but it probably to warn players ahead of time to preload the game before the event.
For Honor's free weekend will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but the event will kick off and conclude at different times for each platform. PlayStation 4 free weekend will start at 8 AM UTC on 3 May 2018 and will conclude at 7 AM UTC on 7 May 2018. Xbox One version will start one hour earlier, at 7 AM UTC but it will end at the same time as the PS4 version. PC users will get the shortest window to play the free weekend, starting at 5 PM UTC on 3 May 2018 and ending at 8 PM UTC on 6 May 2018.
PC players will be able to download the game from For Honor's store page on Ubisoft's website. PS4 players will need to go to PSN store and click the "Try free demo" button which is located next to "Add to cart". Smooth. Xbox One players will be able to find For Honor in Games with Gold section.
Preloads will be available on for PS4 and PC players though, and PC players will need to have Uplay installed. Players on each platform will be able to start preloading on 1 May 2018.
The free weekend will open up all of the content in For Honor - Story Mode, PvP and PvAI modes that include 1v1 Duel, 2v2 Skirmish and 4v4 Dominion, Elimination and Skirmish modes. All of the 18 heroes and 18 maps will also be available.
This free weekend will also have a "Warrior training program" feature that will emphasise grouping with other players. Ubisoft's reasoning behind this is sharing tactics and other game knowledge, but behind PR statements you can see attempts of easing newcomers into staying in For Honor, ergo buying it. It's not a bad thing per se, but it's nicer when someone is straightforward with their intentions. Believing Santa is real is also nice.
Rewards for this program will include a two week Champion status for players who own the game, but also for those who do not. Any rewards won can be redeemed later on in new free weekends or if players purchase the game. More info on grouping can be found on the event's site.
